I have covered the global auto industry as a reporter and editor for 25 years. My experience includes 13 years as a Detroit News auto columnist and 12 years as the daily news provider for Edmunds.com, managing a team of global auto correspondents. I also wrote, produced and directed the Jean’s Driveway segments for JeanKnowsCars.com.
Other highlights include tutoring international students via Skype on how to write admission essays for U.S. universities. My students have been accepted to Stanford, Yale and Cornell and have won thousands of dollars in scholarships. My teaching experience includes 10 years as a university lecturer on magazine and feature writing, newsletters and corporate publications, and journalism ethics.
I have extensive public-relations experience with Audi of America, Children’s Hospital of Michigan, Hutzel Hospital, Harper Hospital and the Wayne State University Medical School.
My reporting experience includes stints as the Detroit News healthcare reporter, People magazine feature writer and reporter in the Detroit bureau of U.S. News & World Report.
I have won 14 Detroit Press Club awards for automotive writing, two Associated Press Awards for feature writing and one first-place award for feature writing from the Society of Professional Journalists. My two series, “The Making of Michigan” and “Detroit’s Ailing Hospitals,” were nominated for the Pulitzer Prize by the editors of the Detroit News.
I have contributed to many national publications, including USA Today, Family Circle, Nation’s Business, People Magazine, Chicago Tribune, Detroit Free Press, Atlanta Journal and Constitution, New York Post, Arizona Republic, Cincinnati Enquirer, Denver Post, Des Moines Register.
